Most people who come to SIPS have already been told their pain is a back problem or a nerve problem. That is a category, not a diagnosis. Dr. Smitherman works out which disc, which joint, which nerve, and confirms it before anything is treated.
Then the least invasive treatment that fits that diagnosis comes first. Sometimes that is an injection, sometimes a small implanted device, sometimes no procedure at all. The measure of success is what you can do again.

Clinical focus
Dr. Smitherman specializes in the interventional treatment of spine, joint, and nerve pain, with particular expertise in advanced minimally invasive procedures. His clinical focus includes spinal cord stimulation and other neuromodulation therapies, minimally invasive spine procedures, vertebral augmentation for compression fractures, treatments for spinal stenosis and disc-related pain, radiofrequency ablation, and image-guided spine and joint interventions.
